Boy stands to answer a question in an outdoor classroom in GhanaWith an overall objective for improved reading proficiency of at least two million Ghanaian children upon primary school completion, the USAID Basic Education program increases access to and completion of basic education, improves the quality of education, and improves and enhances communities’ abilities to oversee school administrations in the Ghanaian education sector. USAID activities include improving the quality of literacy instruction, supporting marginalized populations such as girls in school, strengthening management capacity, and building community capacity to contribute to student and teacher performance. USAID works through the Ghana Educational Service systems in order to bring an increasing number of interventions to national scale.
